Women's Swimming: Frisch Repeats Second-Place Finish at USJ Pentathlon

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. -- Eastern Connecticut State University senior Natasha Frisch (Mendota Heights, MN) repeated her second-place finish from a year ago  and was followed by four first-year swimmers as the Warriors opened their women's swim season at the University of Saint Joseph Pentathlon Friday night at Bruyette Natatorium.

In the non-scoring meet, Frisch had a combined time of 3:05.98 (improving last year's time of 3:06.91) to claim second place behind runaway winner Ella Smith, a senior from Western New England University. Smith won all five events (50 breaststroke, butterfly, freestyle and backstroke and 100 IM) for a ten-second win (2:55.88).

Behind Frisch and placing among the top ten in the field of 42 swimmers were first-year swimmers Jai-Lynn Wheeler (Stonington) and Ashley Carvente (Norwalk), with classmates Rachel Mathews (West Hartford) and Julia Ames (Pawtucket, RI) right behind them. Wheeler (3:10.05) was fourth, Carvente (3:16.73) ninth, Mathews (3:20.39) 12th and Ames (3:20.56) 13th. Junior Molly Ryan (North Royalton, OH) was Eastern's sixth swimmer, with her combined time of 3:21.77 placing her 14th.

Frisch was second in the breaststroke (32.23) and second in the IM (1:06.33). She holds the Eastern program record of 30.57 in the breaststroke.

Among Eastern's 15 swimmers competing in the meet, seven were making their collegiate debuts.

A week from Saturday, Eastern competes in the Roger Williams University Invitational at 11 a.m.
