Women's Volleyball: In Non-Conference Match, Warriors Drop Four-Set Decision

Box Score
BRISTOL, R.I. – Brianna Picchietti, Angela West and Kaylee Jackson combined for 37 kills as the Roger Williams University women's volleyball team downed Eastern Connecticut State University in a non-conference match Wednesday evening at the Paolino Recreation Center. Scores were 25-14, 25-22, 23-25, 25-19).

Since winning seven straight, Eastern (15-6) has dropped three of its last four heading into Saturday's 3 p.m. Little East Conference showdown against the University of Massachusetts Boston at Geissler Gym. Roger Williams (12-10) beat Eastern for only the third team in the last 19 meetings.

After winning the first set by  11 points, the Hawks hung on for a three-point victory in the second set to take a decision 2-0 lead. Trailing by three points late in the third set, the Warriors forced a fourth set by outscoring Roger Williams 6-1 to close out the two-point third-set win. Junior Brooke Praskievicz (Moodus) had consecutive kills and the hosts committed a setting error as Eastern tied the set at 22-22. Down 23-22, the Warriors got kills from Praskievicz, first-year player Allegra Copeland (Beaumont, CA) and junior Haley Jo Bridges (Montebello, NY) to remain alive with the two-point victory.

The Warriors never led by more than one point and the Hawks took the lead for good in the opening stages of the fourth set, reeling off a 6-1 scoring burst to move out to a six-point, 12-6 lead.

Praskievicz led Eastern in blocks (11) and shared the team lead in digs (15), while Copeland had nine kills and matched Praskievicz with 15 digs. Sophomore Emerson Conigliaro (Raleigh, NC) had 11 digs and senior setter Liz Squier (Trevor, WI) 22 assists and sophomore Ariah Davis (Raleigh, NC) 12.

With two LEC matches remaining, Eastern shares third place with UMass Boston (12-11, 4-2 LEC). Already assured of a spot in the six-team LEC playoffs, Eastern closes out its LEC season Nov. 8 at the University of Southern Maine (8-20, 1-5 LEC). The top two finishers gain first-round playoff byes while the No. 3 seed hosts the No. 6 seed and the No. 4 seed hosts the No. 5 seed. Unofficially, one win in its final two matches would give Eastern no worse than a first-round home match Nov. 11.
