Men's Soccer: With Three Goals in Five Minutes, Warriors Remain Unbeaten in LEC

Box Score
PLYMOUTH, N.H. -- The Eastern Connecticut State University men's soccer team put 75 scoreless minutes behind it by exploding for three goals in just over five minutes to remain undefeated after three Little East Conference matches with a 3-0 victory over Plymouth State University Saturday afternoon at Arold Field.

Junior Nico Matteucci (Colchester) broke the scoreless tie by scoring his first career goal in the 76th minute, and first-year player Ben Syphrett (Ledyard) followed with his third and fourth goals of the season in a span of 3:28 to power Eastern (7-3-0, 3-0-0 LEC) to its fifth win in the last six games. The win is the sixth straight for Eastern over Plymouth (3-7-1, 1-2-1 LEC) and 19th-year head coach Greg DeVito improves to 15-1-2 all-time against the Panthers. Eastern has outscored Plymouth, 18-4 in those last six victories.

Junior Sebastian Kadlof (Clinton) recorded his conference-leading seventh goal of the season on Syphrett's first goal and sophomore Eliot Melgar (New York, NY) picked up his third assist of the year on Syphrett's second goal of the match.

Sophomore keeper Jack Harmon (Manasquan, NJ) recorded his second straight  full shutout (he has also shared another), making four saves. He lowered his goals-against average to 1.20 and raised his save percentage to .787.

The win gives Eastern one more conference victory than a year ago and keeps it as one of two undefeated teams in the conference, three points behind defending regular-season and playoff champion Western Connecticut (4-0-0). The Wolves edged UMass Boston, 2-1, Saturday at Boston, MA. The Wolves are 7-0-1 in their last eight matches.

Eastern hosts the University of Hartford (3-4-1) Monday in a non-conference match at 6 p.m. The Hawks were schedule to host Gordon College Saturday at 6 p.m.  The Warriors have shut out the Hawks the last two years, winning, 4-0, in 2023 at home and tying, 0-0, at Al-Marzook field in 2023.
