Rookie-of-the-Week
Maddie Topa, Fy., New Hartford (Northwestern Regional)
Repeats from a week ago, when she was also NEWBA Rookie-of-the-Week. A guard/forward, Topa led Eastern to a 72-64 non-conference road win over Bridgewater State University Friday night with her first career double-double with 13 points and career-highs of 12 rebounds, five steals and four blocks. Having appeared in all ten games and having started the last six for the 4-6 Warriors, Topa ranks third on the team in scoring (8.2), shares the team lead in steals (15) and is second in free-throw percentage ( 78.6) in an average of only 24.2 minutes. A winner of its first LEC game Dec. 3, Eastern plays its final 15 regular-season games in the conference, hosting the University of Massachusetts Boston Jan. 3 and defending LEC tournament champion University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Jan. 6. Eastern is ranked seventh among nine teams in the LEC pre-season poll, UMass Boston tied for fifth and UMass Dartmouth fourth.
