NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – Sixteen different swimmers contributed points as the Eastern Connecticut State University women's swim team closed out the regular season with a 178-82 loss to Smith College Saturday morning at Dalton Pool on the Smith College campus.
Smith (4-5) won all 12 individual events and the opening 200 medley relay before Eastern (8-2) won the 14
th and final event with a photo finish in the 200 freestyle relay. Sophomore

Sadie Tscheppe (Watertown) and junior
Natasha Frisch (Mendota Heights, MN) won by .21 seconds in a time of 1:48.53.
In the meet, Smith swimmers captured the top three places twice and the top two places four additional times.
Sophomore
Camille Attle (Bristol) totalled a team-high 11 points for Eastern with second-place finishes in the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly and a third-place finish in the 200 butterfly. Adding seven points each were junior
Emma Wheeler (Morris) and sophomores
Ava Wheeler (Morris) and
Cassandra Wentzell (Wallingford).
Emma Wheeler was second in the 200 breaststroke, fourth in the 100 backstroke, and fifth in the 100 butterfly;
Ava Wheeler second in the 1000 freestyle and third in the 500 freestyle and Wentzell was third in the 200 backstroke and fourth in the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly.
Also taking seconds were Ronan in the 100 backstroke and Ryan in the 50 freestyle.
The Eastern women open defense of their Little East Conference title Feb. 13-16 at the Boston Sports Institute. The Eastern men were second a year ago in a five-team field. The Eastern women outdistanced a ten-team field for their first LEC title. A year ago, Smith was eighth among ten teams in the New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships, which run Feb. 20-23 at WPI.
