Sarit Gluz -- LEC COY
Sixth-year head coach Sarit Gluz is joined by her coaching staff after
being named Little East Conference men's swimming Coach-of-the-Year.
CHAMPIONSHIP NOTEBOOK

* This was the fourth annual LEC men's championship. Prior to this season, Eastern had placed third twice and second last year.

* Eighteen members of the program swam at least one individual event. Five of them were seniors : captain Ben D'Addario (Fairfield), Rafael Masbad (Ansonia), captain Connor Rego (Winsted), Joseph Sylvester (Morris) and Jared Tofil (East Hartford). Four of the seniors were four-year members of the program who enrolled the year after Covid, with Masbad transferring from Western Connecticut this past year.

* Of the five institutions which featured both men's and women's teams, Eastern led the way with the men's first-place finish and the women's third-place finish. Bridgewater State was close behind with a second-place finish (women) and third-place finish (men).

Sixth-year head coach Sarit Gluz was named LEC men's swimming Coach-of-the-Year for leading the Warriors to their first title, one year after being named LEC women's swimming Coach-of-the-Year for directing that program to its first title.

* Bridgewater State University had won each of the previous three team titles by roughly 100 points -- twice over runner-up Keene State College and last year over Eastern. In amassing a 5-1 dual meet record this year, Eastern had blasted Bridgewater by over 100 points Jan. 15 at the Sports Center pool, winning ten of 12 individual events and both relays. Joseph Sylvester and Boden Tito were double winners for the Warriors in that meet. Sylvester came from behind over the final 200 yards to win in a photo-finish (.28 seconds) over Bridgewater freshman Matthew Jo in the 1000 freestyle.

* The top three individuals and relays (first team, second team and third team, respectively) in each event, are accorded All-LEC recognition.

* A record seven teams were involved in this year's championship. Husson University, Maine Maritime Academy and SUNY Delhi joined Eastern, Bridgewater State, Keene State and Plymouth State University from a year ago. Western Connecticut, last year's fifth team, eliminated its program.

* The Warriors gained big points by taking the top four spots  in the 200 butterfly (Boden Tito-Connor Rego-Eric Quiterio-Ethan Rychling), going 1-2 in the 50 breaststroke (Nico Iannucci-Sam Hurlburt), 2-3 (Connor Rego-Eric Quiterio) in the 100 butterfly, 1-3 in both the 400 IM (Boden Tito-Connor Rego) and 100 breaststroke (Iannucci-Sam Hurlburt), 1-3-5 in the 50 freestyle (Ryan Jezek-Ben D'Addario-Samuel Ainscough)  and 2-4 in the 200 freestyle (Ben D'Addario-Ryan Jezek), 100 freestyle (Ben D'Addario-Ryan Jezek) and 200 breaststroke (Nico Iannucci-Sam Hurlburt).

* In the first three championships, Eastern had won six individual titles and two relays.

* Previous individual champions competing this year for Eastern were Sam Hurlburt (200 breaststroke), Nico Iannucci (100 breaststroke), and Joseph Sylvester (500 and 1000 freestyle) last year, and Connor Rego (100 and 200 butterfly) in 2022-23.

* Eastern's only dual-meet loss this year had come by four points to Husson University at Webber Pool back on Nov. 9. Husson finished fourth this weekend.
