Field Hockey: Warriors Strike Early, Crush Regis for First Victory of Season

Moulin's first two career goals lift team early

WESTON, Mass. – Sophomore Audrey Molin (Vernon) scored the first two goals of her career six minutes apart in the opening minutes as the Eastern Connecticut State University field hockey team remained undefeated all-time against Regis College, 6-2, Thursday afternoon at Regis Stadium.
 
The win is the first this year for Eastern (1-1) and seventh in the seven-game series against Regis (0-2). After winning slim one-goal decisions in the first three games of the series, the Warriors have outscored the Pride 22-3 in their last four victories. Eastern was coming off a 1-0 season-opening home loss Friday to Johnson & Wales University, a 2024 NCAA tournament team.
 
Making her second straight career start Thursday after coming off the bench in 15 matches as a first-year player in 2024, Molin got Eastern on the board just two minutes into action when she connected on the first shot of the game and following six minutes later that boosted the Warriors into a 2-0 lead.
 
With Eastern leading 3-0 early in the second quarter, the Warriors struck for three more insurance goals in a span of only five minutes on tallies by junior Grace Barlage (Guilford), senior Emma Sanson (Thomaston) and first-year player Mackenzie Ray (Grantham, NH). The goal was the 12th in the career of Barlage and first for Ray. With her 23rd career goal and 54th career point, Sanson moved into fifth place all time in both categories.
 
First-year sophomore transfer Jenna Boardman (Columbia) was credited with her first career collegiate point, assisting on Molin's second goal. Boardman was coming off her first career start against Johnson & Wales after coming off the bench in 21 matches last year at Keene State College. Also gaining assists were junior Sophie Ash (Mystic) and Barlage, who is second go Sanson on this year's team in career goals and points (32).
 
Junior Veronica McKenna (Wethersfield) was credited with her first career win in her fourth decision, stopping two shots in a scoreless the first half, with sophomore Kate Paradise (Norwalk) turning back four shots in her second career appearance over the final 30 minutes.
 
Eastern took a six-goal lead into the final 23 minutes of the game before the Pride got two back in a span of two minutes.
 
Eastern outshot the Pride, 25-10, 15-2 in the first half when the carried a 3-0 lead into the half. The Warriors forced Regis junior Allayna Martone to make 13 saves.
 
The Warriors continue non-conference play Saturday at Kean University's Alumni Stadium at 5 p.m. The teams have met only once, the Warriors absorbing a 5-0 home loss in 2017. A member of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC), Kean is coming off a 3-0 road loss to No. 20 nationally-ranked Ithaca College. The Cougars were 6-12 a year ago, losing their last three matches by one goal each.
