Women's Soccer: Hartford Has Too Much For Warriors, Extends Unbeaten Streak

Box Score
WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The University of Hartford snapped a scoreless tie with a late first-half goal as the Hawks extended their unbeaten streak to 16 matches over two years with a 3-0 non-conference women's soccer victory over Eastern Connecticut State University Tuesday night at Al-Marzook Field.

Senior Rebecca Opdenbrouw converted a penalty kick in the 34th minute to give Hartford (3-0-1) a halftime lead, and the Hawks added two insurance goals in a span of 12 minutes early in the second half to hand the Warriors (2-1-1) their first loss.

Opdenbrouw's first goal of the season was the first by an opponent against Eastern sophomore goalkeeper Alex Ignatowicz (Coventry), last year's Little East Conference Goalkeeper-of-the-Year. Ignatowicz had not allowed an opponent to score over the first 214 minutes this year, with an "own" goal in the final minutes of a season-opening tie with St. Joseph's University (L.I.) the only mark against her record this year.

It was the first meeting between Eastern and Hartford as the Hawks gave former Eastern soccer great John Natale '97 his 200th career triumph as Hartford's 22nd-year head coach. The Hawks  won their final 12 matches last year en route to their second straight ECAC tournament title.

For Hartford, junior Kathleen Brush assisted on Hartford's second goal of the match eight minutes into the second half, and her third goal of the season made it 3-0 midway through the half.
Hartford outshot Eastern, 19-6 and allowed the Warriors only three corner kicks.

Ignatowicz made three saves over the first 66 minutes before junior Kaeden Dublin (Maple Grove, MN) closed it out by making one save over the final 24 scoreless minutes. Hartford senior Sejal Johnson made four saves for her third win in four starts.

Eastern opens its Little East Conference season Saturday at Keene State College at noon. The Warriors hold a 19-18-4 lead in the all-time series with Keene, the teams playing to a scoreless draw a year ago at Rick McCarthy Field.
