DANBURY, Conn. – Audrey Molin's goal 1:57 seconds into the second overtime period gave Eastern Connecticut (7-7, 2-2 Little East) a 2-1 win over WestConn (9-8, 2-3 Little East) at Westside Stadium on Tuesday (Oct. 20).
The goal was Molin's 16th of the season, giving the junior the most goals in a season in program history.
The Warriors faced another early deficit, allowing a goal at 6:51 in the first quarter and the game remained a one-goal lead for WestConn until the final period.
Just under two minutes into the fourth quarter, Eastern earned a penalty corner. The ball swung around the circle with
Jenna Boardman dribbling the ball toward the endline to the right of the goal. Boardman's centering pass found its way in front of the net where
Ada Ellis put home the bouncing ball to tie the game.
The fourth quarter remained scoreless as Eastern found itself in overtime for the second time in Little East play. The first 10 minutes went by without a goal and the teams began the second period still knotted at one.
Less than a minute into the second overtime, Boardman was sent off with a green card, putting the Warriors down a player. A steal just shy of midfield and a deep pass led to a breakout for Molin who weaved through two defenders and flipped a backhanded shot into the corner of the net for the game winner.
Kate Paradise made eight saves for the Warriors to pick up the win.
In a close contest, Eastern outshot WestConn 10-8 and had 11 penalty corners to seven for the Wolves.
