GORHAM, Maine – Eastern Connecticut Field Hockey's season came to a close with a 6-1 loss to Southern Maine in the semifinals of the Little East Field Hockey Tournament at Hannaford Field on Thursday (Nov. 5).
The lone goal of the game for Eastern (10-9) came from
Audrey Molin just over a minute into the second half. Molin found a loose ball in the attacking circle right in front of the net and fired a shot into the goal for her 21st tally of the season.
Southern Maine (14-7) scored its first goal 12:32 into the game and led 1-0 after the first quarter. The Huskies took control of the game with three goals in the second quarter, including a goal as time expired in the half.
After Molin got the Warriors on the board, the Huskies responded with two more goals in a span of three minutes to end any chance of a comeback for Eastern.
Southern Maine, the number one seed in the tournament, controlled the game, outshooting Eastern 21-6 and earned 14 penalty corners to just six for the Warriors.
Despite the loss, Eastern finished the season with double-digit wins, posting 10+ wins in back-to-back seasons for the first time in program history. The Warriors also made the LEC semifinals for just the fifth time in program history.
