Softball: Mitchell Named LEC Pitcher of the Year & First-Team, Chatfield Named to All-Rookie Team

WILLIMANTIC, Conn. – Two Warriors received Little East Conference Honors on Thursday for their accomplishments during Eastern's 2026 softball season. Elizabeth Mitchell (Coventry) was named the Little East Conference Pitcher of the Year and First Team All-LEC, while Leah Chatfield (Naugatuck) was named to the LEC All-Rookie Team. The Warriors were 23-18 (10-6 LEC) in 2026, qualifying for the Little East Conference Playoffs as a #4 seed and going 1-2 in the double-elimination tournament, defeating third-seeded Plymouth State University by a score of 3-2 in Eastern's second game.
 
LEC Pitcher of the Year & First Team All-LEC
Elizabeth Mitchell, So., Coventry (Coventry)
Mitchell is named the LEC Pitcher of the Year and First Team All-LEC for the second consecutive time. She becomes Eastern's first repeat Pitcher of the Year since Molly Rathbun won the award from 2010-2012. Mitchell was also named the LEC Rookie of the Year and made the LEC All-Rookie Team in the 2025 season. She made 28 appearances as a pitcher, starting 19 games and pitching 17 complete games, with five shutouts, five saves, and a record of 12-8, all of which are team-leading numbers. In 137.2 innings, Mitchell allowed 126 hits, 38 walks, and had 112 strikeouts with an ERA of 2.08. As a hitter, she had a .351 batting average, with 16 RBIs, 25 runs, and two home runs.

LEC All-Rookie Team
Leah Chatfield, Fy., Naugatuck (Naugatuck)
Chatfield is named to the LEC All-Rookie Team as a designated player and pitcher in her first season with the program. In 25 appearances as a hitter, she made 14 starts and led the Warriors with a .432 batting average (37 total ABs) with eight RBIs and two runs. She had two putouts and 21 assists in the field. As a pitcher, Chatfield made 14 appearances and started 11 games, pitching one complete game and possessing a record of 4-6. In 59 innings, she allowed 78 hits and had 36 strikeouts, with an ERA of 5.93.
