WILLIMANTIC, Conn. – Eastern Connecticut Volleyball (6-1) made quick work of Bay Path (0-3) on Wednesday (Sept. 16) in Geissler Gym.
The Warriors swept the Wildcats 25-5, 25-9, 25-18 and held Bay Path to -.109 hitting. Eastern finished with 30 kills to just 13 and had 13 aces to Bay Path's three.
Haley Jo Bridges and
Brooke Praskievicz led Eastern with six kills each and
Genna Hyde was third on the team with five.
Lauren Lacy was tops on the squad with seven assists.
Eastern finished with 13 aces on the night, the most in a three-set match since picking up 14 at Southern Maine last season (Nov. 8). Eight different Warriors had aces with
Sonya Nielsen leading the way with three.
Sarah Eldridge had the most digs on the team with nine.
In the first set, Bay Path scored the first point before Eastern rattled off 13-straight points. Eastern held a 19-5 lead before scoring the last six points of the set with three kills by
Emma Robinson and three-straight aces by Nielsen.
Down 4-3 in the second, Eastern took control of the set with 12-straight points. Once again a late run, this time 6-1, by Eastern closed out the set.
Samantha Melillo had an ace to finish off the frame.
Eastern trailed 7-2 in the third but battled back to tie the set at 11. The set went back and forth with Bay Path scoring to make the score 18-17 in favor of the Warriors. With Melillo on the service line, Eastern scored six-straight points and finished off the night with a kill by
Lauren Mosca.
