MANSFIELD, Conn. – Junior
Audrey Molin broke the Eastern Connecticut program record with five goals as the Warriors beat Husson, 5-4, on Saturday (Sept. 5).
Molin's five goals and 10 total points broke the school records, which were held by Khiara Valentine (four goals, nine points) against Salem State on Oct. 7, 2017. Molin's previous highs in a game had been two goals and four points.
Eastern Connecticut (1-1) fell behind early as Husson (0-2) scored at 5:50 before Molin took over for the Warriors. Molin would tie the game at one at 8:33 with an assist from
Jenna Boardman and three minutes later, Boardman found Molin again to make it 2-1.
With just over a minute to go in the first quarter, Molin scored her third goal of the game off an assist from
Grace Barlage.
Husson got a goal back in the second but Molin would score two more goals in a span of four minutes to break the record and make it 5-2. The first came off a penalty corner with an assist from
Mackenzie Ray and the second came after a save from Husson's goalkeeper.
The Eagles put a fright in the Warriors late, scoring wth just over four minutes to play and adding a second less than two minutes later to make it a one-goal game but Eastern would keep possession to end the game and run out the clock.
Veronica McKenna picked up the win in goal for Eastern, picking up five saves.
Eastern will hit the road for its next game, taking on Dean College on Wednesday (Sept. 9) at 3:30 p.m.
