Box Score WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State University freshman forward Holly Brouillette scored the only goal in the eighth attempt of shootout competition as the Owls edged Eastern Connecticut State University, 2-1 in the Little East Conference opener for both programs Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field.

After the teams had played to a 1-1 draw through 100 minutes of regulation and overtime, Westfield (3-0, 1-0 Little East) freshman goalie Megan Fountaine kept all five Eastern (3-2, 0-1 Little East) attempts out of the cage in the shootout session. Eastern freshman Samantha Scavo (Redding) had turned back Westfield in its first three tries before Brouillette broke through.
Eastern scored five minutes into the game on an unassisted goal by sophomore forward Hannah Keiser (Danbury), who recorded her team-leading fourth goal this season and the ninth in 23 career matches. Westfield evened the score ten minutes later on Courtney Araujo's goal off a penalty corner,.
Eastern had the biggest scoring threat the remainder of the game with just over four minutes remaining in the first 15-minute sudden death OT sessions, but the Warriors hit the left post on a breakaway attempt.
The Westfield win was the ninth straight for the Owls over Eastern in the all-time series.
Eastern visits Manhattanville College Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
