Eastern (5-3, 2-1 LEC) ended an overall two-game losing streak with its second conference home win in as many tries. The victory is the third straight and fourth in the last five meetings against undermanned Framingham (3-5, 0-3 LEC), which ran out of gas in the second half of the match played in 80 degree heat. The Rams utilized only two substitutes all day.
Junior midfielder Laura Chicorka (Enfield) put Eastern ahead less than two minutes into the second half with her first goal of the season, and freshman midfielder Alex Kallgren (Dudley, MA) notched her conference-leading eighth of the campaign to make it 2-0 with 14 minutes left. Both goals were assisted by junior forward Hannah Keiser (Danbury), last year's top goal-scorer who leads this year's team leader with five assists. Sophomore keeper Samantha Scavo (Redding) made three saves to record her third shutout in eight starts and lower her goals-against average to 1.40.
Following an even first half – Eastern holding a slim 4-3 edge in shots and Framingham a 3-0 advantage in penalty corners – the Warriors exploded in the second half. Eastern outshot the Rams, 16-0, and collected seven of the eight penalty corners over the final 35 minutes.
Scavo kept the match scoreless when she stopped a penalty stroke by Framingham junior back Samantha Pajer 11 minutes into action. The Warriors created a number of opportunities in the circle with crossing passes, which did not reach their targets. Neither team managed a penalty corner until 5:30 remained in the first half. Framingham was awarded three in those final minutes, but none resulted in a shot.
Framingham junior goalie Rosemary Talbot made seven saves.
Eastern visits Fitchburg State University Tuesday at 7 p.m. in a conference match.
