Box Score 2 BROOKLINE, Mass. -- The Eastern Connecticut State University women's volleyball team got its road season off to a successful start with three-set sweeps of winless Suffolk University (25-19, 25-12, 25-16) and first-time opponent Johnson State College (25-14, 25-8, 25-11) Friday night at the Fourth Annual Newbury College Hildebrandt Memorial Invitational.
In six sets, the Warriors attacked at .263, collected a remarkable 35 service aces and amassed a .942 reception percentage.
Four players – all sophomores -- recorded double figures in points on the evening for Eastern (3-1). Middle hitter Kay Mullen (Fairhaven, MA) totaled 16 points, and outside hitters Adrianna Mihalek (Woodbury) 13, Ashley Adams (Mystic) 11, and Amanda Tyler (Longmeadow, MA) 10.5.
Mullen, last year's leader in attack percentage, attacked at .458 on 24 attempts and led the Warriors with 14 kills. Adams attacked at .318 on 11 kills and Mihalek followed with nine kills.
Junior libero Allie Luppi (Tewksbury, MA) had 19 digs and freshman Michelle Valliere (Lebanon) 14 digs and a 1.000 reception percentage on 16 attempts.
Twelve players contributed at least one service error: Luppi had six, Tyler five, and Mihalek and Valliere four each.
Suffolk (0-5) remained winless with the loss, while Johnson State dropped to 1-3.
Eastern closes out play Saturday against host Newbury at 11 a.m.
