Warrior Rally Falls Short in Five-Set Loss to Smith

Ella Prince helped serve Smith to a 6-0 lead in the fifth set and Eastern never seriously threatened the rest of the way as the Pioneers ended a nine-match losing streak and handed the Warriors their first home loss after two wins. Smith closed out the win by scoring the final three points on an Eastern attack error, a service ace from Julie Voorhes and a kill by Elizabeth Peay. Smith used a 5-0 run in the first set to turn a two-point deficit into a 24-21 lead and after an Eastern block cut Smith's lead to one point, Macarena Rojas's kill gave the Pioneers the first-game win. Smith scored seven points to turn a one-point deficit into a six-point, 15-9 lead in the second set. The Warriors bounced back to captured the third set, scoring four straight points to break a 20-20 tie. Kay Mullen had two kills in that late Eastern run. The Warriors ran away in the fourth set behind the late serving of Nina Zimmitti as the Warriors scored the final 11 points to pull away. Adrianna Mihalek had eight kills without an error in the fourth set.

Nina Zimmitti served the first ten points of the match for Eastern and Sage Tourigny picked up three of the final four points in that run with kills. The Warriors scored the first four points of the second set and were never headed. In the third set, Eastern outscored the Bloodhounds 7-1 to move out to a 14-6 lead. Hannah Bryant entered the match in the third set and had three straight kills.
