Bindner All-New England in Long Jump

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Competing in a post-season meet for the first time, sophomore Jason Bindner (Milford) of Eastern Connecticut State University attained All-New England status in the long jump at the 2015 New England Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships this weekend, hosted by MIT at the Henry G. Steinbrenner Track.

Bindner was first in his flight with a personal-record mark of 21-10 ¾ (6.67m) which was good enough to place him eighth in an overall field of 25, which the Eastern men's and women's teams their only points. Bindner broke 20 feet for the third straight week. He was coming off a fourth-place finish last Saturday at the Little East Conference Championships, when he jumped 21-6.

A total of seven Eastern individuals competed in individual events,with the men's 4x800 relay breaking the program record with a time of 8:09.92, good for 17th place and bettering the year-old record of 8:11.59 set at the Little East Conference Championships. The men's and women's 4x100 relays just missed All-New England recognition when they were edged out for ninth place. The women were timed in 50.21, which was .19 behind Springfield College, and the men at 44.22, which was .11 behind Roger Williams University.

Freshmen Savonnah Artis (Waterford) and Taylor Driggers (Providence, RI/Norwch Free Academy) placed 11th and 13th, respectively, in the triple jump and long jump, respectively. Artis recorded a mark of 35-4 (10.77m) – two feet shy of her program record. Driggers checked in with a distance of 16-6 ½ (5.04m). Her program record of 18-1 set last Saturday in winning the New England Alliance and Little East Conference championship would have placed her second in Friday's competition. On Saturday, Driggers finished four spots behind Artis in the triple jump (34-6 3/4/10.53m).

For the men, senior Christopher Brown (Hartford) was 15th in the long jump (20-6 1/4/6.25m), senior Dylan Kruppa (Torrington) 24th in the 400 (50.94) and senor Andre Reynolds (Hartford) ran the preliminaries of the 110m hurdles in a time of 16.04.

Also competing for the women were sophomore Lauren Polansky (Milford), who placed 30th in the hammer (120-8 1/4/36.78m).

The men's 4x400 relay was 10th (3:25.78)  and the women's 4x800 was 17th (10.32.82).
