Track & Field: Five School Records Fall at New England DIII Championship

BOSTON, MA - Part of the Eastern Connecticut State University Track & Field team traveled to Boston, MA for the New England Division III Championship, a one-day meet hosted at the TRACK at New Balance. In this third-to-last meet of the indoor season, the Warriors competed against the top Division III athletes in the region, before a select few attempt to qualify for the NCAA DIII Championship.
 
Anaka Eaton (Coventry) was Eastern's representative in the women's weight throw, finishing in the top half of the field of 23. Eaton finished in 11th, using her second throw of 14.35 meters (47'1) to put her within a foot of the top nine. Natasha Frisch (Mendota Heights, MN) continued to impress in the pole vault, clearing 3.80m (12'5.5) and breaking her own indoor school record once again. Frisch finished fourth in the competition. The Warriors put three athletes in the women's long jump, led by Givanni Perry (Hartford) who jumped 5.54m (18'2.25) on her third attempt and qualified for finals, finishing fifth overall. Casondra Caldwell (Bridgeport) jumped 5.25m (17'2.75) for 12th and Naziah Johnson (Norwalk) jumped 5.06m (16'7.25) for 17th overall.
 
In the men's weight throw, Andrew Johnson (Portland) threw 14.79m (48'6.25) on his second attempt and finished in 16th place. Eaton also competed in the women's shot put, finishing in 12th after her throw of 11.63m (38'2). In the women's triple jump, Caldwell finished second in the competition, breaking her own indoor school record and jumping 11.55m (37'10.75). Laci Davis (Prospect) finished 17th with her jump of 10.59m (34'9). Mark Boudreau (Oxford) led the Warriors in the shot put, finishing 11th with his throw of 14.09m (46'2.75), while Andrew Johnson was 20th with his throw of 13.65m (44'9.5).
 
On the track, the men's distance medley relay team of Zachary D'Andrea (Wallingford), James Saint-Jean (Bridgeport), Joey Caruk (Wethersfield), and Sam Ambrocio (Beacon Falls) finished in 10th place with a time of 10:32.25. In the 60-meter hurdles, Hagen Drake (Stonington) finished 17th with a time of 8.63. In the 60m dash, Naziah Johnson ran 7.90 and came in 11th overall, beating her own school record by 0.02 seconds. Jakeem Wilson (Sterling) ran the 400m dash in 50.19, landing him in 21st place. The 4x200m relay team comprised of Naziah Johnson, Ella Caplet (Bozrah), Shannon Tallis (Suffield), and Izzy Northrop (Uncasville) ran 1:47.94, finishing 14th overall and breaking the school record set this time last year. The men's 4x400m relay team of Saint-Jean, Drake, Wilson, and Bode Paquin (Windham) finished in eighth overall with a time of 3:21.04, beating the previous indoor record of 3:21.48 set in 2005.
 
 
The next meet on the schedule for the Warriors is the Tufts University Last Chance Meet. The meet will take place on Saturday at the Gantcher Family Sports & Convocation Center in Medford, MA.
