Note: Due to a timing error at the meet, Luisantonio Rosado did not break the program record in the 60 meter hurdles, as earlier reported.
BOSTON – There were no individual titles and no one scored a point, but it was a banner day of sorts for the Eastern Connecticut State University men's and women's indoor track and field teams Saturday at the Boston University Scarlet and White Invitational at the BU Track and Tennis Center.
In their fourth meet of the year and final one prior to next Saturday's Little East Conference Championships, the Warriors broke a program record and 16 individuals established a total of 17 personal bests.
Competing on a banked track and against mostly Division I competition, eight men set nine personal bests and eight different women recorded their individual career bests. A total of 30 teams were involved in the men's competition and 26 in the women's.
Sophomore Rachel Berkowsky (Stoughton, MA) erased a 12-year-old women's indoor record in the 1,000 with a time of 3:16.83, bettering Sarah Levy's previous program record of 3:17.62.
Freshman Chidebe Ndibe (West Hartford), who has already qualified for post-season completion in the long jump and triple jump, improved his marks in both of those events Saturday. Ndibe posted the highest finish for either the men or women with ninth-place finishes in both the long jump (21-3 ¼) and triple jump (42-11 ½). A total of 32 individuals competed in the long jump.
For the men, senior Taylor Flynn (Old Saybrook), junior Mike Underwood (Farmington) and sophomore Cooper Goslin (South Windsor) all established personal-best times in the 800, as did sophomores Kyle Bulmer (Brooklyn) and Theo Carbone (Wethersfield) and freshman Dominic Rizzitano (Medfield, MA) in the 200.
In the 3,000, junior Chris Armstrong (Bolton) recorded the men's tenth personal record on the day.
Four runners established personal bests in the women's 3,000: junior Sofia Amaral (New Milford), sophomores Ariel Smith (Stratford) and Amanda Terenzi (Coventry, RI) and freshman Megan Albert (Plantsville), with three freshmen also posting their career fastest times: Fanta Faro (New Haven) in the 400, Christina Gosselin (Old Saybrook) in the 800 and Haley Knox (Bristol) in the 1000.
