Women's Volleyball: Warriors Can't Get Untracked in Three-Set Loss to Conn College

NEW LONDON – The Eastern Connecticut State University women's volleyball team attacked in negative numbers and commited 11 reception errors in a three-set loss to Connecticut College Tuesday night in a non-conference match at the Charles Luce Field House. Set scores were 16-25, 10-25, 19-25.

Conn (7-3) outscored Eastern (9-6) 15-1 to erase an early 8-4 deficit in the first set, scored the first four points and was never headed in the second, and wiped out Eastern's early four-point lead with a 12-3 run to take a 13-8 lead in the final set  in defeating the Warriors for the seventh straight time and sending Eastern to its third straight loss.

Senior Adrianna Mihalek (Woodbury) led Eastern with eight kills and attacked at .200 but no other player managed more than four killa. Mihalek also served two service aces and topped the team with seven digs. Sophomore Leah Sopneski (Deep River) had 11 assists and senior Nina Zimmitti (East Hampton) five digs.

Eastern, which opened the season with four straight sweeps and has won seven of its nine matches in three, was swept for the first time this year.

Eastern hosts Western New England (noon) and Smith College (4 p.m.) in non-conference play Saturday at Francis E. Geissler Gymnasium.
