Box Score DANBURY, Conn. – Eastern Connecticut State University sophomore righty John Parker (Brunswick, ME) pitched seven shutout innings to lower his ERA to 0.86 in three career starts against Western Connecticut State University, and first-year sophomore shortstop Cory Baldwin (Cromwell) had his third four-hit game of the season in the Warriors' 9-0 Little East Conference victory Tuesday afternoon at Westside Field.
Four Eastern (13-10, 3-4 LEC) players collected at least four hits, with senior All-America centerfielder Alex Zachary (Enfield) reaching five times by going 3-for-3 with a walk and hit-by-pitch, driving in two runs and scoring two. Senior rightfielder Pat Sirois (Cromwell) drove in two runs with two hits.
Parker (1-0) won his first game in his sixth start of the season, going a season-high seven innings, scattering six hits with five strikeouts and two walks in pitching at Western for the first time. In two home games last year, Parker pitched a five-hitter over the first six innings the first time around, giving up only one (earned) run in a 6-1 win. In last year's regular-season finale, Parker allowed only four hits in a complete-game (eight innings) 1-0 loss.
The Warriors scored all of their runs over the final five innings, finally chasing Western starter Kyle Cole with four runs in the fifth when five straight batters reached safely with one out. Zachary made it 1-0 with an RBI single that chased in leadoff hitter Alexander White (West Hartford), sophomore third baseman Alex Parkos's (Meriden) infield ground ball plated Baldwin to make it 2-0, Sirois' bunt single drove in Zachary with the third run, and freshman DH John Mesagno (Tappan, NY) pushed the lead to 4-0 with a sacrifice fly.
The heart of the Eastern order (Baldwin-Zachary-Parkos-Sirois) combined for 11 hits, five RBI and five runs scored
After flying out in his first at-bat, Baldwin singled with two out in the third, singled and second the second run of the four-run fifth, doubled in the sixth with two out and singled and scored in a three-run eighth.
