Box Score MANSFIELD, Conn. – Senior All-America centerfielder Alex Zachary (Enfield) hit two home runs for the second time in two days and sophomore first baseman Alex Parkos (Meriden) hit one for the second straight game to help carry the Eastern Connecticut State University baseball team to a 13-4 win over No. 11 nationally-ranked Tufts University Monday night at the Eastern Baseball Stadium.
After hitting a tying home run in the seventh and a walk-off homer in the tenth in Sunday's 9-6 Little East Conference win over Western Connecticut, Zachary slammed a first-inning homer with two out in the bottom of the first inning against Tufts (25-6-1), doubled in the fifth and scored ahead of Parkos' third roundtripper of the season, and blasted his eighth home run of the season to drive in two runs as part of Eastern's (18-13) six-run fourth inning that gave the Warriors a 9-1 lead.
Zachary had three hits, three RBI and scored three times and Parkos two hits, two RBI and three runs scored. Parkos' infield hit after Zachary's fourth-inning homer was the 100th hit of his two-year Eastern career.
In his fourth start of the year, sophomore second baseman William Coleman (Northford) had four hits and three RBI and scored twice, and junior third baseman Collin Russell (Sandwich, MA) contributed two hits and two RBI to Eastern's 16-hit attack.
Sophomore righty Brian Hnatuk (Trumbull) allowed six hits and two runs over the first six innings for his second win in four decisions as the Warriors defeated Tufts for the fifth straight time.
Junior third baseman Tommy O'Hara (Glenview, IL), and reserve first baseman John Moschella (Little Silver, NJ) each had two hits in Tufts' ten-hit attack, and junior Stephan White (Hingham, MA) came off the bench to drive in two runs.
Ranked fourth in New England and 11th nationally, Tufts reached the championship round of last year's NCAA Division III New England Tournament at the Eastern Baseball Stadium.
Eastern hosts Wheaton College Wednesday at 7 p.m. in its final regular-season home game.
