Baseball: Warriors Crush Keene to Gain Split in Final Little East Regular-Season Twinbill

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

KEENE, N.H. --  Alex Parkos (Meriden) socked his fourth home run in six games, driving in three runs with three hits to spark a 17-hit attack which carried the Eastern Connecticut State University baseball team to a 12-6 second-game victory and a split of Thursday's Little East Conference doubleheader at the Owl Athletic Complex.

In the first game, senior righty Mike Crimi  and freshman righty Andrew Houde combined on a four-hitter that lifted Keene (14-21) to a 4-1 victory.

Eastern (20-14, 7-7 LEC) will be the No. 4 seed in the six-team Little East tournament which begins Wednesday at top-seeded University of Southern Maine  and will face third-seeded UMass Dartmouth (22-18, 9-5 LEC) in the third of three opening-round games at 3:30 p.m.

Parkos, Alex Zachary (Enfield) and John Mesagno (Tappan, NY) combined for six hits, four RBI and three runs scored in the second game to back the pitching of John Parker (Brunswick, ME) and Nick Rascati (Wallingford), the pair allowing 13 hits and fanning seven.

Jordan Muchin (West Hartford) started and lost the first game but allowed only one earned run while fanning ten and walking two over six innings. Keene scored three unearned runs in the bottom of the first inning on two-hit RBI hits from Christian Bourgea and John Tarascio after a one-out infield error.

Eastern, which ends the regular season with five wins in its final six games, got four hits from Parkos and Zachary in the doubleheader, with Parkos driving in three runs and Zachary two. D.J. Scavone (Auburn, MA) reached six times with a single, double and four walks and drove in a run. Alexander White (West Hartford) drove in two runs in the second game with an infield ground ball and double.

Parkos and Zachary had at least one hit in each game and carry 12-game hitting streaks into post-season play. Parkos has reached safely in his last 20, White in his last 19 and Zachary in his last 17.
