Box Score WILLIMANTIC, Conn. – Sam Hunter had ten kills and attached at .333, and Grace McGee totaled 30 assists as the Connecticut College women's volleyball team defeated Eastern Connecticut State University for the eighth consecutive time, 3-0, Tuesday night at Francis E. Geissler Gymnasium. Scorers were 25-17, 25-17, 25-12.
Conn (8-4) had lost four of five entering play but was never seriously threatened by Eastern (8-5) in posting its fifth sweep of the season. The Warriors had won their previous two matches coming off the heels of a four-match losing streak.
The Camels outscored Eastern, 10-1 to snap a tie and move out to a 20-11 lead. The Warriors led by a point early in the second set but Conn used a modest four-point run to build a 10-7 lead and force an Eastern timeout. The Warriors never got closer than two points again. The Camels scored four of the first five points of the third set, and later ran off seven straight to pull away, 17-5.
Following Hunter in Conn's balanced attack, Belinda Mullally added eight kills, Emma Hewlin seven and a .429 attack percentage, and Caroline Branigan six kills.
Five Conn players contributed between eight and ten digs, with Hunter and Mullally amassing ten each and Elle Kass nine.
Freshman Abby Stern (Manchester) paced Eastern with ten kills and a .258 attack percentage, freshman Alaetra Long (Lincoln, NE) adding eight kills. The Warriors commited 22 attack errors and attacked at only .010.
Sophomore Mckenzie Maneggia (Andover) had 12 assists, senior co-captain Michelle Valliere (Lebanon) and Stern six digs each for Eastern.
Eastern visits Western New England University and also faces Westfield State University Saturday in non-conference matches at 11 a.m.
