Women's Swimming: Warriors End Regular Season with Split, Finish 8-1 in Duals

BRISTOL, R.I. – Freshman Megan Lasto (Orange) set personal records in the 50 and 100 breaststroke and twin sister Maggie Lasto (Orange) recorded a personal best in the 500 freestyle as the Eastern Connecticut State University women's swim team closed out its regular season with a tri-meet split Saturday afternoon at Roger Williams University.

Eastern (8-1) defeated Babson College (3-12), 139-131, and had a perfect season spoiled in an emphatic 212-71 loss to host Roger Williams (7-3), last year's NEISDA (New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving Association) champion. It marked the fourth time in the last seven years that Eastern has lost only one regular-season meet.

Megan Lasto was the Warriors' first swimmer at the finish in all three of her events – the 50 (33.41) and 100 breaststroke (1:12.13) and 400 individual medley (4:51.89), while Maggie touched first among her teammates in the 1000 freestyle (11:41.96) and 500 freestyle (5:39.29) and junior Mollee Lasto (Orange) was the Warriors' first finisher in the 50 backstroke (30.39) and 100 backstroke (1:05.24). Also leading the team in all three of her freestyle events was freshman Saige Grace (East Hampton): 50 (26.64), 100 (59.03) and 200 (2:08.82).

Megan Lasto's time in the 100 breaststroke was the sixth-fastest in program history and her clocking in the 50 breaststroke was the ninth-fastest.

Megan and Maggie Lasto each placed second twice while Mollee Lasto and Grace each had a pair of thirds. Junior co-captain Hayley Mangan (Manchester) recorded a third-place finish in the 50 butterfly (28.84).

Roger Williams won both relays and nine of 12 individual swimming events, with Babson capturing the remaining three individual swimming events.

Seventh last year at the NEISDA championship, Eastern competes in the Little East Conference Championships Saturday at UMass Dartmouth at 11 a.m. and closes out the season at the NEISDA Championships Feb. 15-18 at the University of Rhode Island.
