Field Hockey: Fitchburg Drops Warriors Under .500 in Little East Conference

Box Score

WILLIMANTIC, Conn. – Senior Maggie Gallagher set up the go-ahead and insurance goals as the Fitchburg State University field hockey team sent Eastern Connecticut State University to its fourth road loss in as many games, 3-1, in a Little East Conference match Saturday afternoon at Elliot Field.

Since consecutive victories pushed Eastern (4-7, 4-5 LEC) over .500 in the conference, the Warriors dropped their second straight this year. Fitchburg (8-6, 5-3 LEC) won for the third straight time at home, defeating the Warriors for only the second time in the last seven meetings.

Junior forward Khiara Valentine (Morristown, NJ) tied the match with five minutes left in the first half with her fourth goal of the year, but freshman Emma Barnaby put the Falcons ahead for good 1:33 into the second half and the hosts put the game away when Chloe Gladu struck with ten minutes left. Both goals were set up by Gallagher.

Sophomore Keira Integlia (Branford) made six saves (five in the first half) for Eastern, which was not credited with a shot in the second half.

With three LEC matches remaining in the regular season, Eastern shares seventh place with Plymouth State University. The top eight teams qualify for the LEC playoffs, which begin Oct. 30.

Eastern visits Western Connecticut Wednesday at 7 p.m.
