Women's Swimming: Megan Lasto Triples Her Pleasure at Connecticut Cup

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. –  As a freshman, Megan Lasto (Orange) become the first Eastern Connecticut State University individual to win an event at the Connecticut Cup women's swimming and diving event. Saturday, she far outdid that accomplishment, winning three events and breaking a program record as the Warriors repeated their fourth-place finish  at the fourth annual championship at the Wesleyan University Natatorium.

Lasto won the 400 individual medley again Saturday – this time breaking the eight-year-old record with a time of 4:40.22 – and added wins in the 200 individual medley (2:12.72) and 200 breaststroke (2:30.24) – events where she finished second a year ago. Her time in the 200 IM was just a little more than a half-second off the record that she set in that event at last year's NEISDA Championships. . Her time in the 200 breaststroke  was a little less than a second off that mark.

Five swimmers won multiple events in the meet, but Megan Lasto and Kristen Durham-Young of Coast Guard were the only triple winners. Durham-Young captured the 50, 100 and 200 freestyle events.

Senior co-captain Mollee Lasto (Orange) recorded a pair of fifth-place finishes in the 100 backstroke (1:02.38) and 200 backstroke (2:17.31). Mollee Lasto holds all three of the program's backstroke records.

All 12 swimmers swam their fastest time this season in at least one event -- combining for a total of 30 fastest times -- with eight posting season-bests in all three of their events: seniors Jessica Bielefield (Torrington) in the 200, 500 and 1,000 freestyle, Autumn Sutton (Lebanon) in the 100 freestyle and 50 and 100 backstroke, and Mollee Lasto in the the 50, 100, and 200 backstroke, juniors Lauryn Smith (Colchester) in the 50 freestyle and 50 and 100 breaststroke and Callan Veltheim (New London) in the 100 freestyle and 200 and 400 IM, and sophomores Amanda Mitchell (Rocky Hill) in the 100 freestyle and 50 and 100 butterfly, Maggie Lasto (Orange) in the 200 freestyle, 400 IM and 100 butterfly, and Megan Lasto in all three of her events.

The top four order of finish remained the same for the fourth straight year. Conn won the team title with 582 points, followed by the U.S. Coast Guard Academy (554), Wesleyan (388), Eastern (195), University of Saint Joseph (161) and Western Connecticut (110).
