BOSTON --  The Eastern Connecticut State University men's lacrosse team shut out UMass Boston over the final 39 minutes – allowing only three extra-man opportunities in the match by being charged with only three minutes in penalties – as the Warriors posted an 8-3 Little East Conference victory Saturday at James Cotter Field.

Now 25-0 all-time against UMass (6-6, 1-2 LEC), Eastern (6-5, 2-1 LEC)  allowed the Beacons to put only 12 of their 37 shots on goal as junior goalie Chris Gorman (Shrewsbury, MA)  pushed his personal record over .500 to 5-4. After stopping four shots in first quarter where neither team scored, Gorman was called upon for only five the rest of the way.

UMass broke 16 scoreless minutes in the game with a pair of strikes 22 seconds apart in the opening minute of the second quarter, but Gorman and the defense surrendered only one goal over the final 44 minutes, when Ned Parkers' second goal of the match gave the hosts their final lead, 3-2, midway though the second quarter.

Following Parker's 11^th goal of the year, it was all Eastern, which potted the final six goals of the match. The Warriors closed out the first half with a man-up goal by senior midfielder Harrison Urda (Milford, NH) and an even-strength goal from senior attack Connor Wyllie (Somers) less than a minute apart late in the half, and sophomore midfielders Jacob Testa (Southington) and Brett Chin (Framingham, MA) scored less than a minute apart midway through the third quarter to give the Warriors a 6-3 lead heading into the final quarter.

Chin and Wyllie each had a pair of goals for Eastern, Urda reached 100 points in his career with his man-up goal late in the first half, and senior attack Matthew Rougeot (Cheshire) moved to within a point of 100 by scoring the team's first goal three minutes into the second quarter and with an assist six minutes into the final quarter.

Eastern successfully killed off a 30 second penalty late in the first quarter, then did not allow UMass  extra-man opportunities until a 30-second push and one minute cross-check in the third quarter.

Sophomore midfielder Matt Robidoux (Cheshire) was 6-of-9 from the faceoff X and sophomore midfielder Anthony Choronzy (Clinton) picked up eight ground balls for the Warriors – giving him a team-high 60 on the season (the second-most in the conference) -- with Gorman, freshman defenseman Tyler Koppy (Attleboro, MA), and junior defenseman Trevor Ross (Stratford) all picking up four ground balls. Ross and sophomore defenseman Ralph Criscuolo (Wallingford) each caused three turnovers.

Eastern visits Western Connecticut in an LEC match Wednesday at 7 p.m.
