Men's Lacrosse: Warriors Lose Tight Contest on Senior Day, Look Ahead to LEC Playoffs

Box Score MANSFIELD, Conn. – The Eastern Connecticut State University men's lacrosse team (5-7, 3-5 LEC) lost their last regular-season match of the year against Keene State College (9-6, 5-3 LEC) by a score of 11-8 on Senior Day at Rick McCarthy Field on Friday afternoon.
 
The Owls were led by Jack Ansart, who scored three goals and had three assists, contributing with over half of the goals scored by Keene State. Ansart was also one of three players to record four ground balls in the game, joining his teammates Cole Ricardi and Nicholas McNulty.
 
Warren Channing (Glastonbury) was at the heart of the action for the Warriors, scoring two goals and contributing with two assists, taking a game-high eleven shots. In goal for the Warriors, Gregory Hilinski (Shelton) kept his team level heading into the fourth quarter, making 14 saves on the night. Andrew Wiegand made nine saves in net for the Owls.
 
The Warriors scored three consecutive goals in the first quarter to overcome an early 2-0 advantage for Keene State. From this point through the remainder of the game, no team scored three consecutive goals, as the teams traded off until Keene outscored the Warriors 4-1 in the fourth quarter to pull away.
 
At the end of the first half, Collin Falconer (Northbridge, MA) scored just his second goal of the season, singlehandedly splitting the Keene defense and leveling the score at five. In a game with six penalties on the Owls and two on the Warriors, both teams scored on man-up opportunities late in the third quarter.
 
A Nick Sullivan goal gave the Owls an 8-7 lead in the fourth quarter and Keene kept their lead for the rest of the game. Seamus Donoghue (Paramus, NJ) scored from a tight angle, assisted by Andrew Schmidt (North Attleboro, MA), to bring Eastern back within one, but Ansart was involved in the final two goals for Keene, as the Owls will host a playoff game against Plymouth State University after today's results.
 
The Warriors will travel to Boston, MA to take on the Beacons of UMass Boston in the first round of the Little East Conference playoffs. The game will unofficially begin at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning. Eastern earned the last spot in the tournament, securing the six seed on a tiebreaker over Salem State University on goal difference. In the regular season game against UMass Boston on March 23, the Beacons won 14-10 in Eastern's first conference game of the year.
