Box Score SALEM, Mass. – The Eastern Connecticut State University men's lacrosse team outscored Salem State University 13-1 to start the second half and pulled away for a 19-6 victory in the Little East Conference regular-season finale for both teams Friday night at Alumni Field
Eastern (9-6, 5-2 LEC) was already assured of the No. 2 LEC playoff seed and a first-round playoff bye prior to the match, but the win over Salem (3-12, 0-7 LEC) gives it sole possession of second place in the final standings.
In Thursday's LEC playoff semifinals, Eastern hosts the winner of a Tuesday first-round match between No. 6 UMass Dartmouth and No. 3 University of Southern Maine. The winner of a season-high three straight and five of six, Eastern defeated Southern Maine (16-8) and UMass Dartmouth (11-7) on its home field during the regular season. Salem, and Western Connecticut – the only LEC team other than undefeated regular-season champion Keene State College to defeat the Warriors in the regular season – did not qualify for the six-team playoffs.
In remaining undefeated in the all-time series with Salem, Eastern got a point from eight different players Friday, with sophomore goalie Taylor Huta (Waterford) backstopping the victory in his first since in over seven weeks. Huta made seven saves for his second win in three decisions.
Junior attack Samuel Watson (Trumbull) and senior midfielder Harrison Urda (Milford, NH) each had three goals and two assists for Eastern, which outshot the Vikings, 47-27, killing off all eight of Salem's extra-man tries. Sophomore midfielder Brett Chin (Framingham, MA) contributed four goals and freshman Connor Hillemeir (Farmington) won 11 of 21 faceoffs.
