Box Score PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – With the Eastern Connecticut State University baseball team looking for a third straight win that would lift it to .500, Babson College scored twice in the sixth and three times in the seventh to pull away from a tight game and post a 7-1 win at North Charlotte Regional Park.
Making his second start in five days after a year's absence, junior righty John Parker (Brunswick, ME) allowed just one earned run (two total) on six hits through five innings, but was lifted after allowing consecutive hits leading off the sixth, followed by No. 9 hitter Aidan Scott's two-run single that made it 4-1.
Eastern (2-4) left 12 runners aboard against four Babson pitchers, managing a single third-inning run that tied the game briefly before Babson (3-2) broke the tie with an unearned run in the bottom of the inning on an inning-opening error, single and sacrifice fly.
The Warriors had tied the game in the top of the third inning with an unearned run (the teams combined for seven errors) on consecutive singles by No. 9 hitter Luke Broadhurst (Stafford) and leadoff hitter Alexander White (West Hartford) after freshman Owen Marica (Haddam) opened the inning by reaching on an error.
William Coleman (Northford) had two hits as Eastern's only multi-hit player, upping his average to .444. White reached three times with a hit and two walks and improved his team-leading on-base percentage to .593
Junior righty Michael Nocchi (1-0) pitched a seven-hitter over the first six innings for the win, fanning six and walking two and was not charged with an earned run. Three relievers held the Warriors hitless the rest of the way.
Babson was coming off last year's 35-win season and second straight NCAA tournament appearance and was ranked No. 15 in last year's final national poll.
