Women's Track and Field

Track & Field: Women, Men Combine for 18 Firsts, Sweep Own Invitational

Highlights:

Sophomore Madeleine Dalberg (Pitea, Sweden) exceeded 18 feet outdoors for the second time in her career with an outdoor program record of 18-1 ¾ (5.53), which was exceeded only by senor Fatima St. Hillaire of Nichols College. Dalberg broke the four-year-old outdoor record of 18-1 set by Taylor Driggers in 2015. As a freshman in 2018, Dalberg set the program indoor record and all-time long jump record (18-4 ¼). Friday's jump, converted to 18-1, is the sixth-farthest in New England Division III this year (tied for 29th-best in Division III).

Junior Hayley Brodeur (Old Saybrook) won the 400 in a field of ten with a facility-record time of 59.01, breaking the previous facility record of 59.10, set 11 years ago by Eastern's Karina Johnson.

Junior Brittany Kriley (Fair Lawn, NJ) was a double winner in the 100 hurdles (16.20) in a field of ten and high jump (5-1/1.55m) in a field of seven. She posted a PR in the high jump.

Sophomore Arlene Blackwell (Winsted) won the 400 hurdles in a field of four in a time of 4:26.93.

Senior Haley Knox (Bristol) won the 800 in a field of ten in a time of 2:26.37.

In her first try at that distance, freshman Maggie Santacroce (Bristol) won the 5000 in a field of three with a time of 20:53.10.

Senior Brianna Starkey (Columbia) won the pole vault in this meet for the fourth straight year with a mark of 9-0 ¼  (2.75m)  in a field of five.

The 4x400 relay won in a field of three with a time of 4:26.93. Participants were sophomore Lauren Bresson (Roxbury), Knox, junior Maggie Dulak (Northford) and senior anchor Christina Gosselin (Old Saybrook).

Juniors Ahriyan Brown (New Britain) and Brodeur placed 2-3 in a virtual photo-finish in the 200 in a time of 26.26, giving Eastern 14 points. Eastern also picked up 12 points in the 100 when Brown and Brodeur placed 2-4 in times of 12.55 and 12.89, respectively.  Brown's time was a PR. Running unofficially, 2016 Rio Olympian Sunayna Wahl of Suriname posted the fastest time with a facility record of 12.12, .19 seconds better than Regis College's Fatima St. Hilaire.

Brodeur totaled  22 points in her three sprinting events. Her time in the 100 was a PR.

Behind Knox' winning effort in the 800, three of her teammates checked in at 3-4-6 to provide the Warriors with 21 of a possible 31 points in the event. Bresson (2:33.41) and Maggie Dulak (2:36) crossed the line at 3-4, with junior Holly Dulak (Northford) sixth (2:38.10).

In the high jump, 23 points came from a 1-2-3 finish of Kriley, sophomore Jasmine Conduah (Fairfield)  Blackwell. Conduah cleared  4-11 (1.50m) and Blackwell 4-9 (1.45m).

Junior Savannah Johnson's (Ledyard) throw of 111-4 (33.94m) in the javelin despite a swirling wind was her best of this year's outdoor season. The throw was good enough for second place and eight points, just two inches shy of the winner.
