Track & Field: Perry Sets Indoor Long Jump Record at Tufts Last Chance Meet

MEDFORD, MA – On Saturday, three Warriors attempted to qualify for the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships at the Tufts University Last Chance Meet. Givanni Perry (Hartford), Casondra Caldwell (Bridgeport), and Natasha Frisch (Mendota Heights, MN) were each given an opportunity in the long jump, triple jump, and pole vault, respectively. To qualify for the national meet, each athlete is seeking a Top 20 mark in Division III to unofficially gain entry to the competition.

In the women's long jump, Perry got off to a good start, jumping 5.53 meters (18'1.75) in her first jump. In her next attempt, she enjoyed her best jump of the competition, jumping 5.62m (18'5.25) for a new indoor school record and a mark that improves last week's mark, but keeps her out of the top 20 places in the nation. In her final four attempts, Perry did not improve upon her second jump, but finishes the competition in third place.

In the women's triple jump, Caldwell fouled on her first attempt, but responded with her best jump of the day. On her second attempt, she jumped 11.02m (36'2), the best jump of her afternoon. She nearly matched this jump on her third attempt, but was unable to earn a better mark throughout the rest of the competition. Caldwell finishes in sixth place and does improve upon her mark from last week.

In the women's pole vault, Frisch elected to pass on the 3.33m and 3.48m heights, having jumped 3.80m last week. At 3.63m (11'10.75), she cleared the bar on her second attempt and progressed to 3.78m. At this new height, Frisch was unable to clear the bar on her three attempts and finishes the competition in seventh place.

The Warriors will look ahead to the outdoor season, competing at the Fred Hardy Invitational hosted by the University of Richmond at Robins Stadium/Fred Hardy Track in Richmond, VA. This two-day meet will take place on Thursday, March 19 and Friday, March 20. As things stand, the three competing athletes today will not earn entry into Nationals, but no standings are official at this time.
