Men's Track and Field: At Gordon Kelly Invite, Warriors Hitting Their Stride in Final Regular-Season Meet of Year in Buildup to Saturday's Little East Championships

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – In the leadup to this Saturday's Little East Conference Track & Field Championships, six Eastern Connecticut State University individuals won events, seventeen posted personal-bests, three qualified for the New England Division III Championships, and three improved upon their New England-qualifying marks Saturday at the Gordon Kelly Invitational hosted by MIT at the Johnson Athletic Center.

  • Individual winners: seniors Ahriyan Brown (New Britain) in the 200 (PR of 26.55), JahDey Wright (Colchester) in the triple jump (PR of 43-7 ¼ (13.29m), and Samantha McKosky (Deep River) in the 800 (PR of 2:21.26), sophomores Kyle Smith (Manchester) in the 800 (PR of 2:04.71) and Ryan Escoda (Newtown) in the mile (4:28.55), and freshman Cory Bill (Mansfield) in the 400 (PR of 52.20).
  • McKosky qualified for the New England Championships in the 800, as did junior Lauren Bresson (Roxbury) in the 800 (PR of 2:27.92) with a fourth-place finish and sophomore   Manar Enany (Fairfield) in the weight throw (PR of 44-10 ¾ (13.68m) with a fifth-place finish.
  • Wright improved his New England-qualifying mark in the triple jump with his third straight PR, Brown improved her New England time in the 200 and freshman Wendie Stewart (Hartford) in the shot (38-10 1/4) (11.84m) with a third-place finish.
  • Also finishing ahead of the field were the men's 4x400 relay (3:37.59) and the women's 4x800 relay (10:03.86).
  • The indoor record-holder in the 60, Brown's time of 26.55 in the 200 was .16 seconds off the ten-year-old record.
  •  Additional personal-records: seniors Nicklas Brink (Stockholm, Sweden) in the 200 (23.79), Kevin Russell (Berlin) (1:30.40) and Holly Dulak (Northford) in the 600 (1:47.38), Samara Johnson (Lebanon) in the mile (5:32.27) and Brittany Kriley (Fair Lawn, NJ) equaling her best in the long jump (15-0 (4.57m), junior Justin Gomez-Stafford (New Haven) in the 400 (54.16), sophomore John Walker (Westerly, RI) in the 3000 (9:23.97), and freshmen Keara Fontaine (North Kingstown, RI) and Jill McGahan (Dedham, MA) in the 3000 with times of 11:45.17 and 12:12.98, respectively.
  • Junior Maxwell Chace (Brooklyn) was timed in 16:32.24 in his first try in the indoor 5000.
  •  Thus far, there are ten New England qualifiers to date: seniors McKosky in the 800 (26th), 1000 (32nd), mile (28th) and 3000 (38th), Hayley Brodeur (Old Saybrook) in the 400 (ranked 42nd), Brown in the 60 (16th) and 200 (22nd), Maggie Dulak (Northford) in the 1000 (55th), Kriley in the high jump (t-15th), and Wright in the triple jump (t-18th), junior Bresson in the 800 (72nd), sophomores Enany in the weight (21st), and Rahman Oteng (Accra, Ghana) in the 60 (t-1st) and 200 (7th) and Stewart is the top-seeded freshman in the shot (7th).
