Men's Soccer: Mayuri Nets Two, Warriors Down Lancers at Nevers Field

The Warriors outshot the Lancers 31-2 (15-0 SOG) en route to their 2nd victory of the year

MANSFIELD, Conn. - In the first fall regular season game at Thomas Nevers Field since October 13th, 2018, Eastern Connecticut State University men's soccer (2-2-0) squared off against Worcester State (0-2-1) and emerged victorious by a final score of 4-0.

The Warriors were aggressive early on as Will Toomey (Willington) fired a shot on net which was saved Worcester State's sophomore goalkeeper Andy Ramirez in the first minute of play. Eastern would rattle off three more shots towards Ramirez before midfielder Andres Mayuri (West Hartford) broke through in the 10th minute on a pass from forward Caleb Ennin (East Hartford) to put the Warriors in front 1-0 in the early going.

Just 10 minutes later, Eastern would have another golden opportunity to put the ball in the net when Ennin's shot was blocked by Andy Ramirez, sending him sprawling out of the goal mouth. The ball found the foot of forward Emmanuel Agyemang (East Hartford) who shot at the goal which was being defended by three Worcester State players and blocked by junior defender Isaac Stephens. Caleb Ennin would gather the rebound as Ramirez returned to the net and Worcester State's defense would record their third blocked shot in eight seconds. At the midway point, the Warriors found themselves outshooting the Lancers 19-1 and 7-0 in shots on goal but holding only a one goal advantage.

However, Eastern's offense would come alive in the second half to the tune of three goals. It all started in the 62nd minute when first-year forward Sean Cafferty (Clinton) hit Andres Mayuri in the front of the net for his second goal of the afternoon. In scoring twice, Mayuri recorded his 10th career goal in three seasons playing in a Warriors uniform.

First-year forward Logan Brennan (Farmington) saw his first collegiate action late in the first half before substituting into the game after the Mayuri goal in the second half. Brennan would make an immediate impact as junior forward Ryan Sirois (Tolland) found him on a cross pass that he fired towards the net, freezing Ramirez in the goal, and earning his first career collegiate goal on his first career collegiate shot.

Junior forward Ryan Jamieson (Ellington) recorded his first career goal for the Warriors in the 88th minute when first-year forward Logan Prempah (Vernon) sent a pass over to first-year forward Elijah French (Tallahassee, FL) who tipped the ball to an open Jamieson for the fourth Warrior goal of the afternoon.

The trio of first-year forwards in French, Prempah, and Cafferty each earned their first career assists on two of Eastern's goals.

Sophomore goalkeeper Dylan Pallanck (Willington) and Nathan Yeich (Willington) shared time in goal for the Warriors as Pallanck earned his second win of the year while facing no shots from the Lancers' offense.

Worcester State goalkeeper Andy Ramirez made 11 saves on 15 shots that came his way from the Warriors.

The Warriors will face off against Mitchell College on Tuesday at 1:00 PM at Thomas Nevers Field, their final home game before kicking off Little East Conference play next weekend on the road versus University of Massachusetts-Boston.
