Field Hockey: Wildcats Break Hex Against Warriors, Win First in Series

Box Score PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Mya Bolk and Jillian Miele each scored twice to lead the Johnson & Wales University field hockey team to a 5-2 non-conference victory over Eastern Connecticut State University in the season-opener for both teams Wednesday afternoon at Scotts Miracle-Gro Field.

The victory marks the first time in program history that JWU has opened the season with a victory. The Warriors had won the three previous meetings between the programs, winning 3-2 in the most recent meeting in 2017.

Junior Sarah Gallagher (South Windsor) made ten saves in her second career game and first start. Senior Brianna Nolan (Watertown), who scored six goals in six matches during the spring season, cut the Wildcats' early 2-0 lead in half with her 12th career goal in the 18th minute, but Eastern was held off the board and trailed 4-1 before freshman Liz LaMarco (West Hartford) recorded her first career goal in the final minutes.

Eastern visits Regis College Saturday at 4 p.m. in the second of four straight road matches to open the season. The Warriors have prevailed, 2-1, in each of the three meetings between the programs.
