Angelina Falleni (Byram, NJ) and
Emma Sanson (Thomaston) scored nine minutes apart in the second half and senior goalies
Erin Fainer (Thomaston) and
Sarah Gallagher (South Windsor) combined on five saves that powered the Eastern Connecticut State University field hockey team to a 2-0 Little East Conference victory over Bridgewater State University Tuesday night at Swenson Field.
After a scoreless first half, Eastern (5-7, 2-5 LEC) took over in the second half, outshooting Bridgewater (1-11, 0-7 LEC), 11-2, and limiting the Bears to just one penalty corner. The loss is the seventh straight for the Bears while Eastern has won three of its last five. The Warriors won for the fourth straight time against Bridgewater, third by shutout.
Sanson scored her sixth goal of the season (tied for the most on the team) with five minutes left in the third quarter to snap a scoreless tie, and Falleni added insurance four minutes into the fourth quarter with her third goal of the year. It was Sanson's first game-winner.
The shutout was the fourth of the year for Eastern. Gallagher made four saves to keep the game scoreless in the first half and Fainer needed only one save in the second half for her second win in three decisions.
Eastern plays the second of three straight LEC road contests Saturday at Westfield State University. The Owls have won five of the last six encounters with Eastern and are 7-6 this season, 4-3 in the LEC.
