Â
Eastern won with walk-off hits in the bottom of the seventh inning in both games,
Taylor Darby scoring both game-winning runs.
In the first game, Eastern rallied for two runs in the seventh on an infield error, Darby's two-out single and freshman Madi Bowen's two-out pinch opposite-field flare to right. In the second game, Darby hit her second career home run with one out in the seventh as the Warriors handed UMD's Kaitlyn Shirshac her first loss of the year after ten wins.
Alyssa Vilchez pitched a two-hitter for her first career shutout.
Â
Eastern gained the sweep and remained unbeaten in the conference despite being limited to seven hits by Jill Richards and Shirshac, in large part due to Vilchez and first-game winning
Carley Stoker. The pair gave up only six hits (five singles) and struck out ten. Darby had two hits, scored two of the team's three runs and drove in two of the three runs.
Â
UMass Dartmouth was shut out over the final 13 innings after going ahead, 1-0, in the top of the first inning of the first game. Â Stoker allowed two of the four hits that she surrendered to the first two batters of the game and a sacrifice fly game the Corsairs a quick 1-0 lead. Richards stifled Eastern on two hits over the first six innings, and the two seventh-inning runs she surrendered were unearned thanks to an inning-opening infield error. After the error which allowed Vilchez to reach, freshman
Ally Gruca  sacrificed the runner to second, and with two out, Darby tied the game with an opposite field single to right on the first pitch she saw from Richard, and Bowen delivered the game-winning with her single off a 1-0 pitch. The run-scoring hit doubled Bowen's RBI total this season.
Â
UMass Dartmouth, eliminated by Eastern in the final of last year's LEC tournament, was picked to finish second in the conference this year in the pre-season poll, Eastern third.
