Men's Lacrosse: Plymouth's Defense Shuts Down Warriors in LEC Loss

Stevenson of Eastern scores first two career goals

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Junior attack Crosby Fay recorded the most goals in a Little East Conference match this year, potting eight to lift the Plymouth State University men's lacrosse team to a 14-5 victory over Eastern Connecticut State University Saturday morning at Panther Field.

Coming off a 47-goal season as a first-year transfer from St. Lawrence University last year, Fay reached 30 goals on the season less than two minutes into action Saturday, then followed with three more in the first quarter – the only goals scored by either team over the first 15 minutes – to lead Plymouth (8-3, 1-2 LEC) to its first conference  win this year after consecutive losses to top LEC teams UMass Boston and Western Connecticut State University in its last two outings.

Fay is ranked second in the conference with 37 goals this season.

Eastern (4-7, 1-2 LEC), coming off an encouraging 12-9 non-conference home win over Wheaton College Wednesday, lost for only the second time in nine matches all-time on Plymouth's home field.

Eastern scored three of its goals in a span of less than three minutes in the second quarter that cut the Pantehrs' early 5-0 lead to two goals before Plymouth answered with three of its one, the first by Fay midway though the quarter.
Eastern collected 12 caused turnovers that led to 34 Plymouth turnovers, but behind sophomore Leif Charbonneau (15-of-22), Plymouth won 16 of 23 faceoffs.

Senior Nick Collazo (Park Ridge, NJ) made 11 saves for Eastern while junior Owen McNichols of Plymouth – ranked second in the conference in goals-against average – needed only six saves (four coming in the fourth quarter) in the win.

Coming off the bench for the tenth time, first-year player Mike Stevenson (Shelton) scored his first two career goals for Eastern. Stevenson first career goal gave Eastern its first of the game four minutes into the second quarter, and his second on an assist from junior Zacharie Appolon (Stamford) came midway through the third quarter and cut Plymouth's lead to 8-4.

Senior defenseman Ryan Stocks (Longmeadow, MA) – the team leader in ground balls and caused turnovers, led the Warriors with five ground balls and four caused turnovers.

Eastern hosts Western Connecticut State University (8-3, 2-0 LEC) in a conference match Tuesday at 7 p.m. Since opening with six straight wins, the Wolves have dropped three of their last five and are coming off Wednesday's 14-11 loss at Skidmore College. WestConn reached last year's LEC semifinals, finishing 14-4 overall. In 2021, WestConn reached the LEC title game, losing, 14-13, at UMass Boston. Since winning the first 17 matches against the Wolves in the all-time series, the Warriors have lost the last five, the first four of those setbacks coming by a total of ten goals.
