Earns the honor in the first report of the season after being twice named Rookie-of-the-Week and earning Rookie-of-the-Year honors in 2022/23. In two wins at the season-opening Westfield State University Rick Martin/Hampton Inn Classic, Dao averaged 22.5 points and 5.0 rebounds with nine assists, five steals and a block in 34.0 average minutes and was named tournament MVP. Dao shot 51.6 percent (16-of-31) from the floor including 7-of-14 from distance and was 6-of-6 from the foul line. In an opening 89-65 win over St. John Fisher College, Dao scored 17 of his game-high 19 points to help the Warriors to a 14-point halftime lead. He was 6-of-9 from the floor in the half and 3-of-3 from the foul line. In an 80-66 win over Westfield State in the final, Dao had 26 points, six rebounds, five assists, three steals and a block. He was 10-of-18 from the floor (5-of-9 from three). After a dominant first half against St. John Fisher, Dao took control in the second half to ensure the team's 16-point halftime lead did not dissolve. In 19 second-half minutes, he had 22 of the team's 38 points (8-of-11 FG, 5-of-7 three-pointers, 1-1 FT), two assists, two rebounds, a block and steal. After the Owls cut Eastern's 16-point halftime lead five minutes into the half, Dao scored ten points in 83 seconds on two three-pointers and two layups, as well as adding an assist and block that restored the 16-point lead seven minutes into the half. The lead never dipped below double figures the rest of the way.
