Women's Lacrosse: Five From Eastern are Cited in Little East Awards Program

WILLIMANTIC, Conn. – Sophomore attack Alexa Vizzini (Vernon, NJ) has become the first Eastern Connecticut State University player in 22 seasons of  Little East Conference women's lacrosse competition to be named first-team attack in each of her first two seasons when the season-ending LEC women's lacrosse awards program was released today.
This year, Vizzini had 14 multiple-goal goals, striking for at least one in all but one of her 17 starts and finishing first on the team in goals (53), points (67) and shots (127), with ten of her goals coming in man-up situations.

Additional honorees from Eastern were first-year head coach Devyne Doran '17, senior midfielder Kaylee Drobish (Wallingford), first-year defender Grace Saldaña (Colchester) and junior defender Addison Twohill (Hamden). Doran was named Coach-of-the-Year, Saldana to the first team, Drobish to the second team and Twohill was Eastern's representative to the eight-person Sportsmanship Team.

Vizzini currently ranks sixth in the LEC in points and seventh in goals on her conference-leading shot total, becoming the 17th player in program history to net as many as 50 goals in a season. In a 23-8 win at Mount Holyoke College in the third game of the year, Vizzini matched her career-high of seven goals – three off the match record. Vizzini reached 100 career points in only her 28th career game April 16 in a 19-2 LEC home win over Rhode Island College and ended the season with 96 goals in 33 career matches.

With Eastern picked for fifth place in the LEC pre-season poll, Doran led the Warriors to a 5-2 conference record and a share of second place and as the No. 3 seed, Eastern reached the LEC semifinals of the playoffs for the first time since 2018 following an 18-6 first-round home win over No. 6 University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. The Warriors finished 9-9 overall, 9-4 against New England opponents.

Saldaña was the only player on the team to start all 18 matches, becoming the program's first first-team All-LEC defender as a 'true' freshman. Doran was the last first-year defender to be named to the All-LEC team when she was a second-team choice in 2014. Saldaña shared this team's team lead with 39 ground balls and was second on the team with 22 caused turnovers. Saldaña's season-highs came in LEC play with six ground balls in the 21-8 regular-season win at UMass Dartmouth and five caused turnovers in a 19-2 home win over Rhode Island College.

A four-year member of the program and a three-year starter, Drobish led the team for the first time in either draw controls (64), caused turnovers (23) or assists (22) and was third on the team in points (21) and fifth in goals (19). Five times, Drobish collected at least five draws, with a career-high ten coming in a 23-8 road win over Mount Holyoke College. In back-to-back games in late March and early April, she recorded 15 draws.

Also a four-year member and team captain on the field hockey team, Drobish ranks tenth in the LEC in draw controls this year, with her total representing the 11th-most in a season in program history. She concluded her 64-game career ranked 12th all-time in draw controls (131) and tied for seventh in assists (50).

As Eastern's representative to the Sportsmanship team, Twohill started 13 of the 14 matches in which she appeared as a second-year player. She finished third on the team in ground balls (30) and third in caused turnovers (20).
