MANSFIELD, Conn. – Graduate forward Kaylee Drobish (Wallingford) scored her second goal of the season and eighth of her career with six minutes left in the fourth quarter to lift the Eastern Connecticut State University field hockey team to a 1-0 non-conference win over Nichols College Tuesday afternoon at Rick McCarthy Field. The game's only goal was set up by sophomore Betsy Davis's (Enfield) first career assist.

Now 2-0 this year at home, Eastern (3-1) had looked to continue their winning streak against the Bison (2-5), previously beating them in the 2023 matchup, 5-2.  For Eastern, this year's win total matches the win total in 18 matches a year ago.

With thirty-three seconds left in the game, the Warriors had a chance to increase their lead on a penalty stroke. The shot was taken by sophomore forward Grace Barlage (Guilford) but was saved by Nichols senior goalie Sophia Venable.

The outcome reflected the equally matched and very defensive game. Eastern outshot the Bison 16-9 in and 9-6 in penalty corners. Eastern goalie Kiana Webster (Raymond, ME) had seven saves to record the first full shutout of her career (she shared an opening-season home shutout of Regis College, while Venable had nine. Both played all sixty minutes.

Eastern hosts RPI in a non-conference match Saturday at 4 p.m. on Family Day. The teams will be meeting for only the second time, following Eastern's 2-1 road loss a year ago.
