KEENE, N.H. – Playing its sixth road match in eight outings this year, the Eastern Connecticut State University men's soccer failed in its bid for a fourth Little East Conference victory in its last five meetings with Keene State College, dropping a one-goal decision when the Owls scored the only goal with eight minutes left Saturday afternoon at the Owl Athletic Complex.
Sophomore Alex Nicolas scored his first career goal in the 82
nd minute for Keene (2-5-1, 1-1-0 LEC), which stopped a five-game losing streak with its second shutout of the season. Eastern (1-4-3, 0-1-1 LEC), extended its winless streak to six (0-3-3) with its third 1-0 loss on Keene's field in the last four decisions.
Senior keepers
Nathan Yeich (Willington) of Eastern and Regan Racicot of Keene each made four saves, with Racicot recording his second shutout in seven starts this year. The Warriors dominated in both shots (20-11) and corner kicks (7-2) but were unable to finish in losing two in a row to the Owls for the first time since 2009-10. Since then, the Warriors have held a 9-6-2 advantage over Keene.
The Warriors play the first of five home matches in the month of October Wednesday, hosting Rhode Island College at 7 p.m. The Anchormen swept Eastern a year ago, winning 2-1 on their own Alumni Field, in the first round of the Little East playoffs.
