CHAMPIONSHIP NOTEBOOK

* This is the 23rd LEC women's championship. Prior to this year, Eastern had placed among the top three 15 times. The Warriors won the title once (last year), placed second nine times and third five times. Last year was a three-team race between Eastern (805 points), Bridgewater State University (786) and Keene State College (780), the latter team failing to win the title for the first time in 17 years..

* This year's championship field included a record 12 teams, two more than a year ago. Husson University, SUNY Delhi and Maine Maritime Academy are newcomers while Western Connecticut dropped its program. In dual-meet competition this year, Eastern had competed against seven of the team's in the LEC Championship, losing only to Keene State, 144-118 at the Sports Center pool Jan. 11.

* The top three individuals and relays (first team, second team and third team, respectively) in each event, are accorded All-LEC recognition.

* Of the five institutions which featured both men's and women's teams, Eastern led the way with the women's third-place finish and the men's first-place finish. Bridgewater State was close behind with a second-place finish (women) and third-place finish (men).

* All 18 members of the program swam at least one individual event. Six of them were seniors: Lexi Betts (Madison), Kyleigh Connolly (Cheshire), Ceili Roberts (Stratford), Katie Roberts (Deep River), tri-captain Allison Ronan (Northbridge, MA) and Ally Verdicchio (Shelton).  Four of the six were four-year members of the program. Ceili and Katie Roberts are unrelated but were among three Roberts on the squad. Ceili was joined this year by sophomore sister Ciara, a transfer from Western Connecticut.

*- Despite missing two major point leaders from a year ago -- Maya Brody and Lindsay Weaver -- the Warriors placed just 19 points behind second-place Bridgewater State University and 34 in front of fourth-place University of New England. Keene re-gained its title -- its 17th in the last 18 years.

* The Warriors picked up major points Friday by going 1-2 in the 200 backstroke (Cassandra Wentzell-Allison Ronan) and 3-5-6 in the 50 freestyle (Molly Ryan-Sadie Tscheppe-Stacy Sheno), and on Sunday, took the 2-3 spots (Cassandra Wentzell-Allison Ronan) in the 50 backstroke.

* Previous individual champions competing this year for Eastern were Natasha Frisch (100 IM) and Allison Ronan (200 IM) last year, and Ronan (50 backstroke) in 2022-23.
