MANSFIELD, Conn. – Audrey Molin netted another hat trick as Eastern Connecticut field hockey (5-2) beat the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) (4-3), 4-3 in overtime on Tuesday (Sept. 22)
Molin capped the hat trick just over seven minutes into overtime, deflecting a pass from
Grace Barlage over the Blue Jay's goalie. Molin now has a team-high 13 goals on the season.
Reagan Grecula finished with the other Warriors goal.
Saint Joseph got on the board quickly, taking advantage of a rebound on a shot 1:53 into the game, as Grace Kociszewski put home the first goal of the afternoon.
Down 1-0, Eastern got back into the game with a penalty stroke. After Saint Jospeh was called for a penalty in front of the goal, Molin stepped to the spot and fired one over the shoulder of the goalkeeper to make it 1-1.
Off a penalty corner, USJ struck again as Kaitlin Trudeau sent one toward the net that snuck through the defense and into the net.
Two minutes later,
Jenna Boardman had the ball on the endline and fired a pass in front.
Reagan Grecula knocked home her fourth goal of the season to tie the game.
Five minutes into the third quarter, Molin got on the board with her second goal of the game, finishing off a rebound in front of the USJ goal with a nice backhand.
The lead was short-lived as USJ scored on a penalty corner just 23 seconds later to tie the game. A scoreless fourth quarter sent the game to the first overtime game of the season for Eastern to set up Molin's heroics.
