Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Early Goals Doom Field Hockey in Loss to Salve Regina

MANSFIELD, Conn. – Eastern Connecticut field hockey was doomed by early goals in a 3-1 loss to Salve Regina on Wednesday (Sept. 30).

Eastern (5-4) got its lone goal from senior Grace Barlage and an assist from Ella Rice. The Warriors were outshot by Salve Regina (6-3) 17-9 and 11-6 in shots on goal.

Salve got on the board first as the Seahawks had the ball on the endline and sent a pass in front of the Eastern net. Jordyn Pineau was waiting on the far post to put the ball into the net.

Just over a minute later, Salve doubled its lead as Eastern's goalie allowed a rebound to bounce right to the stick of a Seahawk, who fired it back and into the net to make it 2-0.

Ten minutes into the second period, Eastern got on the board. Rice had the ball at the top of the circle and made a good pass to Barlage, who beat her defender and fired one past Salve's goalie for her fourth goal of the season.

Salve collected its final goal on a penalty stroke with just over three minutes left in the game.
