Box Score AUBURNDALE, FL. – The Eastern Connecticut State University Baseball Team (9-2) closed out their Florida spring break trip with a win against Ramapo College (7-4) on Thursday at Lake Myrtle Sports Complex. The Warriors scored in six different innings to earn a 10-8 victory against the Roadrunners, who kept themselves in contention throughout the game, but ultimately were unable to stop the Warrior offense. Eastern scored 10 or more runs for the fifth time this season. Prior to this game, the Warriors held a 5-0 record against Ramapo, meeting first in 1981 and last playing in 2018.
Matthew Carrera (Mount Sinai, NY) led off with a double down the right field line off Ramapo's Thomas Schlaline. He brought across the first Warrior run, scoring from a groundout by
Lucas Malave (Toms River, NJ). The Roadrunners responded in the bottom of the inning through Zach Novakowski, who hit a 2 RBI single to give Ramapo their only lead of the day. Ramapo's late offensive spark would give the Roadrunners hope in the last few innings, but the Warriors would eventually hang on for the win.
In the top of the second,
Ian Moser (Bellingham, MA) nearly hit another home run in his first at bat, this time, hitting a deep double into right center to drive in two Warrior runs. Among the runners to score was
Teige Kimbler (Albany, NY) who had two runs on the day and was one of two players to finish with three RBIs. For Ramapo, Jack Tallent impressed offensively, going 3-for-5 with three RBIs and three runs, thanks to his three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth to bring his team within a run.
After
Joseph Barlovic (Bergenfield, NJ) put in four innings of work, allowing four hits, one earned run, and striking out five, the Warriors used seven more pitchers to help maintain their lead.
Tommy Martorano (Wrentham, MA) pitched Eastern's most effective inning in relief for the Warriors, allowing two hits, striking out one batter, and allowing no outs during his time on the mound. Half of Eastern's eight pitchers featured for less than an inning.
Eastern added a pair of runs in the seventh, including
Chad Byrd's (Bridgeport) first hit and first RBI as a Warrior. Byrd's RBI single came after the Roadrunners intentionally walked Moser. Dan Maglio hit one out of the park to make it 10-8 in the eighth inning, but the Warriors relied on
Noah Fitzgerald (York, ME) to finish the job in the ninth and capped off a 6-0 trip down south.
The Warriors are back in action on Sunday for a home doubleheader against Little East Conference opponents VTSU Castleton beginning at 1 p.m. at Holowaty Family Field in Mansfield.
