NEW HAVEN, Conn. – On Friday, the Warriors competed at the Wilton Wright Invitational hosted by Southern Connecticut State University at Jess Dow Field. The men finished 3rd out of 11 teams and the women finished 5th out of 11. Sacred Heart and Southern Connecticut took the top two places on both sides.
The Eastern Connecticut men's 4x100 meter relay team started off the day for the Warriors, finishing 5th with a time of 43.76. The women's 4x100m relay team of
Shannon Tallis (Suffield), Naziah Johnson (Norwalk), Givanni Perry (Hartford), and
Casondra Caldwell (Bridgeport) finished 3rd in 48.60, narrowly losing to the team from Molloy University. This time breaks the 42-year-old school record set by Rolande Morisseau, Judy Pemberton, Audra Jones, and Elgitha Wilson on May 24, 1984. In the men's 1500m,
Zachary D'Andrea (Wallingford) led the Warriors with a 5th placed finish of 4:09.97.
Natalie Estabrook (Clinton) led the women in this event with a time of 5:42.67 for 11th.
Hagen Drake (Stonington) finished 4th in the men's 110m hurdles with a time of 14.97.
Maya Korczak (East Hampton) came in 7th in the women's 100m hurdles, running 16.32. In the men's 400m,
Amadeus Bonilla (Newport News, VA) finished 22nd in a large field, running 52.38 and
Laci Davis (Prospect) ran 59.51 for 4th in the women's 400m.
Kenyon Morrissette (Lebanon) ran 11.10 for 8th place in the men's 100m. Tallis
finished a place behind for the women, running 12.97 for 9th.
Sam Ambrocio (Beacon Falls) ran the men's 800m in 1:57.45, leading his team with a 2nd place finish. In the men's 400m hurdles, Drake set a new school record with a time of 54.45 and finished third. The previous record of 55.64 was held by Luisantonio Rosado and was set in 2014. Morrissette ran 22.25 for 8th place in the men's 200m, while
Naziah Johnson finished her 200m in 25.73 and also came in 8th.
In the men's 5000m,
Luke Dalton (Naugatuck) won the event, running 15:27.84.
Keira Warner (Ellington) finished in 6th place for the women and ran 20:04.59. In the field,
Anaka Eaton (Coventry) placed 3rd in the women's hammer throw with her mark of 47.68m (156'5).
Christian Anderson (Danbury) jumped 6.30m (20'8) in the men's long jump, finishing in 11th place. Perry reached a mark of 5.78m (18'11.75) in the women's long jump and placed 2nd overall.
Izzy Northrop (Uncasville) cleared 1.45m (4'9) in the women's high jump and came in 9th. In the women's pole vault,
Katelyn DeNunzio (Bolton) cleared 2.45m (8'0.5) for 13th.
Andrew Johnson (Portland) finished 4th in the men's hammer throw with a mark of 51.39m (168'7). In the women's javelin throw,
Chloe Hammer (Montville) came in 10th with a throw of 25.69m (84'3). Eaton also competed in the women's discus throw, finishing 8th with a throw of 36.65m (120'3).
In the men's high jump,
Dustin Sannasi (Waterbury) cleared 1.80m (5'10.75) for 5th place.
Lucian Parker-Jennings (Athens, VT) cleared 4.10m (13'5.25) in the men's pole vault, finishing 9th. In the men's shot put,
Mike Prizio (Trumbull) came in 15th, throwing 12.57m (41'3). He also led the Warriors in the discus throw, reaching a mark of 42.85m (140'7) for 6th place. Sannasi jumped 12.70m (41'8) in the triple jump, finishing in 6th place. In the women's triple jump, Caldwell won the event with a jump of 11.34m (37'2.5).
Next week, the Warriors prepare to host the Bonnie Edmondson Classic, beginning at 10 a.m. on Friday at Mansfield Outdoor Complex. Also on the schedule for the 17th of April is a two-day meet that will extend to Saturday, April 18. Some members of the team will compete at the UConn Northeast Challenge at George J. Sherman-Family Sports Complex in Storrs, CT.
