SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Eastern Connecticut State University track & field team competed at the Division III New England Track & Field Championships on Friday and Saturday, a two-day meet at Blake Track.
Two Warriors won events at the meet, as
Hagen Drake (Stonington) continued to lower his school record in the 400-meter hurdles, running 53.50 for the win. In the women's triple jump,
Laci Davis (Prospect) added about eight inches to her school record, jumping 11.77m (38-7.5) for first place.
Casondra Caldwell (Bridgeport) finished third with her jump of 11.39m (37-4.50).
Anaka Eaton (Coventry) finished in the top six in three separate throwing events, finding her best finish in the hammer throw, finishing third with a throw of 49.91m (163-9). Eaton threw 37.87m (124-3) in the discus throw for fifth and 12.15m (39'10.5) in the shot put for sixth. In the long jump,
Givanni Perry (Hartford) finished fifth, jumping 5.60m (18-4.5).
The relays performed well for the Warriors, as the men's 4x800m finished third overall, running 7:57.76, while the men's 4x400m ran 3:12.55 for fifth. In addition to her triple jump performance, Davis finished sixth in the women' 400m, running 59.01.
The men's distance side posted a few sixth-place finishes, including a sixth-place finish in the men's 10k by
Noah Hauswirth (Branford), who ran 32:39.04.
Sam Ambrocio (Beacon Falls) ran 4:01.97 in the men's 1500m and
Zachary D'Andrea (Wallingford) ran 1:54.98 in the men' 800m, both finished sixth.
Eastern put a pair of athletes in the men's and women's steeplechase, led by
Jake Thompson (Portland) who finished in tenth with a 9:49.81.
Keira Warner (Ellington) ran 12:13.65 for 14th.
Kenyon Morrissette (Lebanon) competed in the men's 200m, running 22.65 for 13th.
In the men's throwing events,
Mike Prizio (Trumbull) threw 42.79m (140-5) in the discus throw for seventh place.
Andrew Johnson (Portland) finished 11th in the hammer throw with a mark of 48.28m (158-5) and
Mark Boudreau (Oxford) threw 14.10m (46-3 in the shot put for 12th overall.
The Warriors will compete at the Farley Inter Regional Meet at Lee Track in Williamstown, MA on Friday and Saturday, a two-day meet hosted by Williams College. After this meet, Eastern will have just the MIT Final Qualifier remaining before the NCAA Division III National Championships.
